About Me

Hey everyone,

My name is Melanie (but I prefer to be called Mel). I am 26. I am very easy-going about most things and enjoy discussing anything and everything on message boards. I love a good debate occasionally but I mainly love just having fun and a laugh! What I do object to is discrimination (of any kind, positive or negative) and being judged before people know me. What I love about message boards is that you can come back and still see all the posts rather than it being in real time.

I am currently living in Norwich working as a mortgage sales consultant. I know that sounds fairly boring but it is more exciting than people think. Also I have some great colleagues which makes such a difference.

Hobbies include: surfing online, posting on message boards, reading, watching TV (especially sports), watching films, hanging out with friends, listening to music etc.

Likes: friendly people, HIM, talking, chatting, debating, pretty much anything that is fun

Dislikes: people who judge you before they know you and discrimination.

About My Avatar

This was a debate that raged when I had an avatar that was of two guys kissing. It featured from about March 2007 onwards. This has now been changed to something less controversial. The next thing will be the quote in my sig!

Everyone seems to think I chose my avatar to make a statement about sexuality and being open-minded but to be honest it was never intended to be that (at least not to start with). Originally it was because this is a screencap from one of my favourite shows and I happen to really admire/fancy the actor on the left. I always liked the storyline that got them together so it seemed logical to have them as my avatar. It never crossed my mind that people would be so offended or digusted by me having this avatar.

Now that people have complained, it has turned into a little bit of a statement. As far as I am aware it does not break any Yuku Terms of Use but people seem to suggest it is a little offensive. To me an avatar should represent you and your views and (as long as you aren't breaking any rules) you should not be asked to remove something that is special to yourself. It annoys me that people don't allow you to express yourself the way you wish. I would never ask someone to remove an avatar because it offended me - I would simply ignore it in the posts.

Also, I have seen a lot worse avatars as well! It's not like this is blatent porn - they are not ripping each others clothes off nor does it include nudity! Argh!

I am a sporadic poster... but when I do post I tend to post a lot in one go. This is mainly due to the fact that I work full time. That means that I am often tired and not in the mood to post after work. When I do come on here, my board takes priority. I will try and get to my other regular boards but I cannot guarantee that.
